This split level custom vacation home stands on the shores of the island of Roatan in Honduras. The tropical island is rich in vegetation and the shoreline is encrusted with ‘iron rock’ (fossilized reef) shores; the sea life is abundant and thriving. While rainfall is adequate to support the island, no significant public water system exists. The home was designed with an integral cistern (built within the homes foundation system) that collects rain water and then purifies it for household use. The large windows take advantage of the water front views while the deep overhangs shade the interiors from the heat of the sun’s rays. Varied roof lines/ heights, wood siding and large patios create a design that fits well into the tropical island setting.
